Phoenix Rise Announced As Newest Team in National Pro Grid League

Play Inaugural Home Game at Jobing.com Arena on Saturday, August 23

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (August 4, 2014) – The National Pro Grid League (NPGL), the world’s first professional spectator sport with co-ed teams competing in human performance races, announced the Phoenix Rise, as the official team of Arizona. The Rise are one of the eight founding teams of the NPGL and will open its inaugural season against the D.C. Brawlers at Jobing.com Arena on Saturday, August 23 at 6 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the Jobing.com Arena box office, online at Ticketmaster or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Ticket prices start at $25 for upper level to $89 floor seating.

“We are proud Phoenix was selected as one the cities to represent the National Pro Grid League,” said James Fitzgerald, Owner, Coach and Athlete of the Phoenix Rise. “We believe that this League, with its team-based approach, represents the natural evolution of functional fitness competitions. Given the popularity of the sport from fitness fanatics to weekend warriors, we look forward to showcasing elite athletes racing here in the Valley.”

As with all teams in the NPGL, the Rise will feature five men and five women, with at least one of each being 40 years of age or older, who compete in head-to-head timed fitness competitions called “races.” Each Grid match consists of 11 races. NPGL races are easy to follow and are played with pre-set, flexible rules designed to force teams to strategize. In each NPGL race, a smarter team that executes flawlessly could possibly outwit and outperform a purely fitter team in any given match. Teams will compete in an abbreviated season, which culminates in a single elimination tournament for the Pinnacle Trophy in October at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on the Las Vegas Strip.

The Rise is led by an experienced owner operator team including the first CrossFit Games winner in 2007, James “OPT” Fitzgerald, Owner, Coach and Athlete; Jon Callahan, Owner and Chief Executive Officer; Jarret Scheinman, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer; Jason Phillips, Sponsor Relations; and Meghan Cyr, Director of Events.
